Nationals Report – Congratulations Brin Liddell and the SNSWSSA Zone team

Congratulations to our new National and State Champion Brin Liddell from Drummoyne Sailing Club.

Brin capped off a great season helming 7114 Speed Demon to record two wins on the final day to come from behind to win a closely contested series. The Derwent River threw up some interesting conditions and illustrated to the sailors that reading the tide and wind shifts was a constant challenge. Consistency and excellent boat handling was the key to achieving good results in winds that ranged from light to moderately heavy on the final day of racing.

Our SNSW team had great results and the consistency of sailing by the team resulted in SNSW taking out the team prize, the first time since the last trip to Tasmania some 6 years ago.

Special mention and a huge thank you from our children should go to our Coaches Felix Grech (Who first competed in the Sabot Nationals in Hobart in a 2-up) and Emily Carstairs.

It was great to see a new crop of children and parents coming along, and we all enjoyed the atmosphere

On behalf of all the families and competitors of our Zone we thank the host club the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, the Main Sponsor BMW Hobart Autohaus  and all the event sponsors and a huge thank you goes out to the Committee, Race officers and Volunteers, and Peter Maree who all helped run and organise the fantastic regatta.

We now look forward to seeing our friends in the Sabot community up at Darling Point Sailing Squdron – Brisbane QLD for this years Nationals.
